    Welocme to Matera

    Individual arrival in Matera and check-in at your hotel. Welcome to the remarkable City of Rocks.

    Matera and the Park of Rock Churches (12 km (+340m / –350m)

    Enjoy a full-day hiking loop through the Natural Park of the Rock Churches (Parco delle Chiese Rupestri), a unique landscape of ravines, caves, and ancient religious dwellings.
    Overnight in Matera.

    Matera – Puglia Aqueduct – Locorotondo – Alberobello 14 km (+140m / –110m)

    After breakfast, take a private transfer to the Itria Valley. Today’s walk follows the Greenway of the Puglia Aqueduct, the longest aqueduct in Europe, leading you to the charming circular village of Locorotondo.
    In the afternoon, return to Alberobello by direct FSE public transport (train or bus).
    Overnight in Alberobello.

    Alberobello – Martina Franca – Alberobello (17 km (+130m / –100m)

    Walk from Alberobello through the countryside to Martina Franca, known for its elegant Baroque architecture.
    Return to Alberobello by direct FSE public transport (train or bus).

    Alberobello – Natural Park Dune Costiere – Ostuni (12 km (+160m / –70m)

    After breakfast, take a private transfer to a Masseria, where today’s walk begins. Follow the trails of the Natural Park Dune Costiere toward Ostuni.
    Enjoy a break with a tasting in a small, family-run farm surrounded by the natural landscape.
    You may also choose to take a detour to visit the Sanctuary of San Biagio. Before reaching Ostuni, the route passes near the Archaeological Park of Santa Maria di Agnano.
    Overnight in Ostuni.

    Ostuni – National Park Dune Costiere – Lecce (14 km (+10m / –220m)

    After breakfast, follow a mostly downhill trail along gravel roads leading toward the sea and the edge of the Regional Natural Park Dune Costiere. Continue walking to the coast at Lido Morelli.
    A private transfer will then take you to Lecce.
    Overnight in Lecce.

    Lecce – Otranto – Lecce (8 km (+80m / –80m))

    After breakfast, travel by public transport to Otranto. Enjoy a walking loop south of the town, including the beautiful Orte Bay and the striking abandoned bauxite quarry—also known as the Blue Lake—famed for its intense colours and dramatic scenery.
    Return to Lecce by direct FSE public transport (train or bus).
    Overnight in Lecce.

Payment and Cancellation

Payment: deposit of 10% per person within 3 days of confirmation and balance 60 days before departing from Australia. Cancellation:
  • cancellation received 45 working days or more before departure: deposits will be not refundable.
  • cancellations made from 44 to 30 working days before departure: 40% of the payments will be not refundable.
  • cancellations made from 29 to 15 working days before departure: 70% of the payments will be not refundable.
  • cancellations made from 14 to departure: 100% of the payments will be not refundable.

Technical Information

The tour is suitable for anyone with a minimum of training. The length of a walking day ranges from a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 15km, with almost undemanding unevenness and travel times between 2.5 and 4 hours. The tours wind mainly through dirt paths and country lanes; rarely, and only when strictly necessary, on busy roads. We recommend to wear comfortable walking shoes, better if trekking boots, and to bring with you a hat, drinking water, sun cream, swimsuit and a waterproof jacket in case of rain. We will take care of your luggage while you are walking.
